History - Raja's 1926 Rolls-Royce, Nanpara Taluqdari was one of the taluqdaris (feudal states) in British India. The title of "Raja" was conferred on the Nanpara House by Nawab Shuja-ud-Daula, the king of Oudh in 1763 and then recognised by the British. With 439 villages it was the largest Muslim taluqdar (landlord) in British India.
Nanpara was an important frontier estate in the Bahraich district of Oudh, bordering Nepal territory. Of the 439 villages, 438 were in Bahraich district and one in Barabanki district. It covered an area of 468 square miles (1,210 km2), or roughly the same area as the then former German principality of Lippe. In 1914-15 the gross rent of the Estate was over Rs.12,00,000 and the Government demanded land revenue and cesses of Rs.2,80,000. Taking into account a population density of 350 inhabitants per square mile (140/km2) [which was the estimated district average in the 1911 census] the population of the Estate was over 154,000.
